background redo... painting #41

Which one do you like better?  I changed this background, cause it's always bothered me. I guess it was too intense of a color, so I toned it down, and gave it more of a neutral feel.... what do you think?

In the shadow painting #77

Hope everyone had a Happy Halloween.  I didn't paint a pumpkin this year (yet, anyway), and didn't carve one either.... too busy painting sunflowers, I guess.

Water shadow painting #75

Here's a different version of my sunflower... love the vase.  So fun to paint...

These have turned into a series, without me even trying.  HA !

Gerberas Painting #52

Had to purchase these, mine are toasted, even though I've been watering them...  This heat has done a number on the lawn and gardens !

Single Daisy Painting #41

The daisies are huge and prolific this year, just like the other spring blooms.   Here's a single one, all sturdy and almost 'smiling'...  ha ha

I redid the background, so it wasn't so intense.  Which do you prefer?

Fickle tulips Painting # 9

As I painted this morning, the still-life kept changing, as the tulips opened, and opened, due to the light I had on them, which warmed them up.   I still like the results, though.  So many of the things I think about and do when I paint I owe to Carol Marine, whose inspiration and knowledge are such a part of me now. Especially valuable are the hints and helps on how to apply the paint ! Visit her here to get 'inspired'.

Have a great, relaxing break from painting for awhile, Carol, and hope to see you back soon.

Finished ? maybe....

Still on the easel, but I've pretty much pronounced this one 'done'.   It's cool to shrink it down on the computer screen and see the whole painting in a different perspective.  It really helps, like Carol Marine mentioned to all of us in her August workshop last year in Fish Creek.... thanks for all the good suggestions, Carol !

Check out her wonderful work here.

In Progress

After going to one of the High Schools in the area, this morning, to observe my student teacher, I decided I would start a larger canvas... (18 x 24)  today.    I have wanted to try some room interiors for awhile now, and even started a different one in acrylic at my sister's house on Wednesday.
I decided to post an image of it on the easel.  It's got a way to go still, but I'm pleased so far.   I'm certainly open to any and all suggestions anyone might have !!!!  Really, I am !!!
I think it will perk up a bit when I get a few more contrasting values added !

After adding it to the post, I realize how it desperately needs some added contrast (of values, especially)

Day One Hundred-Sixteen

'Front and Center'

6 x 8 oil on panel
50.00 + 6.00 s + h
Finally....I got (or rather My Hubby got, the scanner to work)  He unplugged it, plugged it back in (not from the wall, but only the cord to the unit).    I think the problem might have been the baby girls were making me a picture on the copier the other day, and might have touched a button or two.... Here's one of the pictures they made for Grammie...

Day Ninety-Six

                                             'Pucker Up'

8 x 8 oil on panel
50.00 + 6.00 s + h
I made a new recipe last week, and had to go out and buy lemons.  (It had chicken, lots of lemons, and was very easy... just baked in the oven)  Anyhoo, I've been thinking I wanted to paint some, too, so I picked up some yesterday.  During the ride home, I talked to a friend on the phone ( I know, I really try hard not to talk and drive) but, it was funny, because she said,"Why don't you paint some lemons?"..I told her that was what I was planning to do ! ha !
Also, I have a good friend that has a passion for lemons in her tea...   She loves lemons a lot, too !  She can't drink iced tea without about 3 lemons in it.
This blue bowl was the creation of a wonderful potter that lives in Illinois.   His daughter is a teacher at the school where I used to teach.   We used to go annually to his pottery sales out in the country.   His cobalt blue pieces were my favorite.  This bowl has an unusual shape, thrown on the wheel and then modeled into a squareish shape.... very cool.
