When I retiring from teaching, in my last year, I began to tribute to my students with a series of 12 x 12 oil portraits of some of them. They were painted from photos that I took in my classroom. My goal was to produce 100 paintings. I reached 75, and had a show of the portraits at the Monday Club in Webster Groves, as a teaching 'send-off'.
Most of the paintings have either been sold, or given to the parents of the students. (I did several teachers as well).
-The Webster-Kirkwood Times did an article on me, and it included pictures of me painting in my studio, working on a portrait of my then 18 month old granddaughter.
- I took part in a show at Norton Gallery on Big Bend called, "size matters", and my painting was included in the ad for the show.
- I was pictured plein air painting during the Webster Days event in 2014, in the Webster-Kirkwood Times, as well.
- In the 2014 plein air event, 'Paint Out' in Lebanon, Illinois, my painting Early Morning Lebanon took first place in the judging, and was included in their town paper.
- Somerset Studios included my artwork in several of their magazines, including an article that I wrote about my process. Somerset Memories had four pages on a collection of vintage cards I made, and Somerset Journaling included a page of a journal I made on a trip to Spain.

I've always loved doing portraits, so dogs are kinda similar to that. Each dog has his or her own personality, which has to be captured to get the likeness of that particular animal.
The personality, for me, comes through in the eyes.

Oil painting collections
A collection of paintings, including still life, some portraits, animals, architecture, and recent plein air. I've included some recent commissioned work.
This, I realize shows a lot of diversity, but these are some of my favorite pieces, so I wanted to include them.

Behind Main Street
I found this alleyway very interesting as a subject for my second of 3 paintings while at a plein air 'paint out' over the weekend. It was hot, but I managed to squeeze myself into a seated position (which I usually don't like, and don't do) behind a shed, of sorts in this alley...
I was so HOT, that I decided to sit, thinking that I'd stand a better chance of actually finishing the painting, and not giving up, because I was dripping wet... ha ! Well, I had fun painting, and then noticed a distinct odor of sort of rotten garbage, only to then recognize the dumpster directly behind me... well, I had to finish, anyway, and I really was pleased with the results.... Perseverance !

Zinnia heaven
I am enjoying this... I will be sad when the zinnias are over. I planted some different varieties in another part of the yard ( my berm in the front yard), and the guy who cuts our lawn got out his weed whip and took them all out, thinking they were weeds..... had to start over, so I am starting with different seeds and seeing what I get. !

Colorful skies at sunset
A sketch for a larger painting... experimentation with color.... These are ALMOST complements, but not quite.... the light in the sky is always a warmer hue near sunrise and sunset.
I admire this combination in artwork I've seen and would love to incorporate this color palette into my arsenal of techniques.

Zinnias are wonderful
I love growing zinnias, and bringing them inside.... I just recently started painting them, too.... a triple header... ha !
This is only my second year growing them, from seed. I can't stand to leave them outside, and constantly cut them and put them in vases everywhere in my house. Fun !

Jason's home in Chicago
Here is a commission for a painting I did of a former students home in Chicago. His mother wanted to surprise him with the painting. I also completed a painting of his residence in Indiana, which was a challenge of angles and shadows, and I had lots of fun with that one, too.

I'm back... Here's Steinberg......
I've been busy with commissions, and having a great time in my studio, when I can get the chance... (the garden is looking a little forlorn with a new, terrible weed this year) Anyhoo, I think that by emailing my photos from phone to email I can then retrieve them to the blog...YAY !
Here is one of the newest paintings I've worked on, and the picture of the new plein air setup I was able to purchase because of the commissions I've been doing.... YAY, again !
This is a commission of the Steinberg Skating Rink in St. Louis' Forest Park. It is one of 2 that were commissioned of the facility by the manager of the rink.
