Started this last night... just roughing it in, on the black canvas... Finished this morning.... now, that's dedication.. ha ha  !    Seriously, those polka-dots will drive ya nuts !

Succulent series Painting #18

 Alright, I really put in a days work today !  Can't believe after my struggle (big time) that I decided to add this complicated background fabric... go figger....

 

     B U T-- I DID learn alot from this one, I'll tell ya that !  First of all, the pink background kept mixing with my color--- Really not good.... that fought me the whole way.  Then the background was indeed a challenge....  Also, the colors of the larger plant were very distinct, and quite contrasty, so the difficulty came in added a shadow color which would look enough different, so you could distinguish the two as different areas.   Also, the light and dark of the individual leaves had to remain a bit different in the shadow areas, too !!!  MaMa Mia !!!

Succulent series... Painting #17

This one was a doo-zie !  I worked almost the whole afternoon on it, with little breaks for peanut butter.  Finished up this morning.... whew !

Tree Peony Painting #16

     This grows on a tree peony, which is similar to a regular peony, but has a woodier stalk.  The blooms measure about 7" across, and are the most incredible beauties....
     I changed the upper corners from the brighter, darker greens to the softer, lighter, soft edge background.  I think it helps the composition, keeping it from being so symmetrical. What do YOU think?

   This one was challenging.... Not only was the plant difficult, and complex, but the elipses didn't help, either !!

Soft ranunculus Painting # 14

     This painting has my 'big 3' favorites in it.  It has hot pink, which I love, ranunculus, and polka-dots too...  Yes, I actually DO have this many polka dotted fabrics to put in these paintings.  You see, I love to make baby quilts, too, and have all sorts of wonderful fabrics for backgrounds, so there will be more to come, I'm sure. !

     I really liked all the varieties of plants I found at my neighborhood nursery... (literally in my neighborhood, I could actually walk there...)  Anyhoo, I decided to go a collection of paintings using them as my subjects.  I especially like the look of the succulents.

     I love the abstract quality of these plants.  I love to see the assymmetrical-type of radial balance they exhibit.  Something great about the grey-green color for me, too.  The touch of red -the bowl- bring out the greens, polka-dots for pizzazz...

Red Shoes, again Painting #11

 

     I really get a kick out of painting these little shoes... (no pun intended)  Anyhoo, here they are on one of my granddaughter's favorite games, Pete Rabbit.... This is the first board game she's really ever played.

Ranunculus. Painting #10

 

 These have been my favorite flower since I fell in love with them at a 'Home Show" many years ago.  It's the first time I remember seeing them, and I just thought they were beautiful.   Apparently they don't grow in my part of the country, because I try, in vain to get them to grow EVERY year !  (You'd think I finally learn, and just buy the cut flowers for my table ! Ha !)

Fickle tulips Painting # 9

     As I painted this morning, the still-life kept changing, as the tulips opened, and opened, due to the light I had on them, which warmed them up.   I still like the results, though.  So many of the things I think about and do when I paint I owe to Carol Marine, whose inspiration and knowledge are such a part of me now. Especially valuable are the hints and helps on how to apply the paint ! Visit her here to get 'inspired'.

Single Gerbera - Painting #8

This is my favorite color, plus another couple I'm VERY fond of, but I love to wear this one!  I've always had several blouses and sweaters this color.   Love the daisies, too.

Gerbera Daisies #7

Do any of you remember these when we were kids?  I don't...  Maybe they were hybridized or something, but anyway, I love them...

I DO have the traditional daisies in my garden, and love those too !

Labadie Mo. #6

     We (my sis and I) visited a little town called Labadie Mo. a couple of weeks ago to do some lunch and look for antiques.  We stopped to get a few images of this awesome feed store.  I've always wanted to paint some of these abstract shapes and forms.   I love the light and shadows they create.

     Close-up of these amazingly colored pansies... In all my gardening years, I've never planted pansies.  This year will be my first.

     Here's a different perspective on these little guys.  They are such fun to paint, and remind me of my darling grandbabies. 

Pansies.... the sign of an early Spring

    We all know that it's too early for the nurseries to be stocking up on pansies in mid-March, but nevertheless there they are.  I found this one to be such a beautiful shade, somewhere between orange and fuchsia.

Daily Painting Again

Getting back into the Daily Painting BIZ.....Hopefully my newer style will show through. 

    Now, you know we can't go through life without distractions, but I'm going to stay focused, and not let them take over... ha ha !  That's what happens when you love to do EVERYTHING.... but I want to paint SOOO badly.... so, here goes.....
